Around the corner
Just as we’re wearing wide-leg trousers with thick soles and platforms, winter comes and gets us cornered. So, how do you style bell bottoms and culottes
in cold weather when focus shifts away from our ankles? The answer: from flared to squared! And the autumnal change in fashionable silhouettes doesn’t stop at shoes.Take a look at the toe cap on this shoe – it’s now square.
This squared-toe style gives booties and ankle boots a fashionable update with a retro twist. An edgy trend with lots of angles just like the era it came from. Flared jeans have fashionably gone for the chop and the cropped style is back in force along with culottes. Both the width of the leg and the height of the shoe are key.
Ankle boots in velour, leather and imitation snake have been lengthened so they disappear under the hems of flared trousers or at least hit at the same height. This means the parts of the shoe on show have been given the star treatment. Beside the square shape, heels are also coming into their own. Colourful patterns, wooden block heels and shiny acrylic looks transform the retro bootie into a true statement piece.
